Q & A's

Q & A's for new yogi's

What do I wear? Do I need to bring anything?

Wear comfortable clothes you can easily move and stretch in, bring a mat if possible. If you do not have a mat we have mats at the studio and props will be provided for class.

How should I prepare for my class?

-Arrive 5-10 minutes before class start time

-Please turn off cellphones and place with shoes in the mudroom

-Always inform teacher of any health concerns

-If you need to leave class early practice near the exit and leave quietly

-Come to class with an empty stomach (avoid eating 2 hours prior to class)

-Please drink plenty of water before and after class

How much water should I drink?

Always come well hydrated, follow the guidelines below:

-Consume 8–10 glasses of water (8 oz. per glass) daily for normal activity, not including exercise.

-At least 2 hours prior to exercise, drink 16 oz. of water or fluid without caffeine.

-During exercise, drink frequently, preventing thirst. Your goal is to replenish fluids at the same rate you are sweating.

Do I have to be flexible?

No, you do not have to be flexible. Flexibility is one of the many aspects of yoga and once you practice for a period of time you will improve flexibility with numerous other benefits. Yoga is not just about stretching muscles but also toning and elongating them. Everyday and every practice your body will exercise slightly differently, you will find that one side will almost always be able to do more than the other , this is OK. Give yourself the grace you deserve focusing on both physical and mental aspects of your practice.
